Jean A. Proehl, MN, RN, CEN, CPEN, TCRN, FAEN, FAAN, serves on the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) Board of Directors. ENA is the specialty nursing association serving the emergency nursing profession through research, publications, professional development, and emphasis on quality and patient safety.
Proehl has been an emergency nurse since 1981 and an emergency clinical nurse specialist (CNS) for over 30 years working in Washington, Colorado, Florida, and New Hampshire. She is an internationally known speaker and author about emergency and trauma nursing. Since 1982 she has served in a variety of elected and appointed ENA positions on the local, state, and national level. She was the 1999 ENA President and Chairperson of the Academy of Emergency Nursing from 2006-2009. She is co-editor of the Advanced Emergency Nursing Journal and the Senior Reviewer for the emergency skills in Elsevier’s Clinical Skills. Proehl currently works in a variety of clinical, consulting, and educational capacities including as a per diem stretcher-side emergency nurse at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH and Gifford Medical Center in Randolph, VT.
She earned her Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of South Carolina in 1980. In 1986 she graduated from the University of Washington with master’s in Burn, Trauma, and Emergency Nursing.
